This is a brief outline of Adam Arthur Nimmo’s military career. There seem to be lots of details that can still be researched by someone who has more time than me!

Adam Arthur Nimmo 20^th of June 1891-19^th june 1960) 1 day before his 69^th birthday! On leaving school, he trained and became an Electrical/Mechanical engineer for Bedford Council (see Graduate listing photograph) Initial training from 30^th Oct 1915. He joined the South Lancashire Regiment as 2^nd Lieut on 22nd Jan 1916. Promoted to Lieut 22^nd July 1917. Had spells with other regiments (Lincoln Regt. East Lancs etc (see his service booklet) Seems that he stayed in the Army after the war and I can see that he was promoted to Capt in 1929 (London Gazette). 

THESE ARE HIS ACTUAL PERSONALLY OWNED WAR ITEMS WHICH INCLUDE HIS SOLID SILVER TRENCH WATCH AS WELL AS HIS ORIGINAL AND MINATURE WW1 SERVICE MEDALS, BINOCULARS AND FULL WAR SERVICE PAPERS.

THE WATCH IS FULLY SERVICED & REPAIRED (AT GREAT COST) AND IS IN WORKING ORDER.

THE WATCH:

WATCH CASE:

This is an absolutely beautiful and lovely condition 3 piece genuine solid HIGH GRADE 925 STERLING SOLID SILVER Screw back FULL HUNTER watch case. The case is in lovely condition, showing no major wear. There is the odd ding and light scratching, but the case is great for its 100+ years of age. Case spring a little weak with age so front cover is opened with a fingernail. This lovely watch case has an Engraving to the hinged front cover which are the initials of its owner A.A.N (Adam Arthur Nimmo). The SOLID SILVER wire lugs are in good condition with no repairs that I can see. The inside of the case is beautifully marked with hallmarks for 925 solid silver. The sponsors mark is GS for George Stockdale. The case is fully hallmarked for English sterling silver and has London Assay office marks with a date letter for 1915 (When he began basic training). The case measures 3.4cms (34mm) across excluding the lugs and crown. It is of excellent quality and a good weight as you would expect for a quality watch.

DIAL:

This is a fantastic lovely original bright white dial. It is unsigned. The dial is in excellent condition and is showing NO hairlines That I can see to the eye All of the BEAUTIFUL BLACK painted Arabic numerals are crisp and sharp, as is the lovely red twelve. There are remains of the original lume on the hands and the numerals. The dial has a gorgeous black painted outer minute track. The minute and hour hands are blued steel which look to be in good condition with some light oxidisation. The crystal is a plastic replacement. It is in excellent condition showing no wear marks.

MOVEMENT:

This is a wonderful genuine high grade un-named 15 jewels Swiss made movement. It is unsigned. This fantastic movement is in good working order and has just BEEN FULLY SERVICED and repaired to bring it back from the dead! at great cost to me by my watchmaker. I have timed it over 24 hours and keeps good time to within approximately +/- 10 secs per day. It is manual wind and crown set. All in all this is a beautiful high quality original movement. The crown is white metal in color and looks to be a replacement from new.

BAND:

This beautiful timepiece is fitted with a brand new 12mm extra long brown leather open ended band. It has a gold tone metal buckle. This is an absolutely fantastic band to this gorgeous watch!! The watch and band measure just over 9 inches in total length.

MEDALS:

Also included in this personal collection are Adam Nimmo’s genuine and original WW2 medals. There are 2 full size medals and 2 miniatures. The non-miniatures have Lt Nimmo’s name on the edges. They are in very good order.

SERVICE PAPERS:

Lt nimmo’s fascinating full service papers are contained in a blue press stud fastened wallet held within a another outer cover. The papers are in good condition for their age and give a good account of his WW1 army life.

BINOCULARS:

This pair of Heath &Co WW1 binoculars are in good aesthetic condition, showing normal field use and are complete with their original brown leather case. All straps are present but worn. The binoculars work but could do with an overhaul. There is no name on these binoculars, but I have no reason to doubt that they belonged to Adam Nimmo as they came as part of this full set of items belonging to him.
