Martinez in groove
Two homers power Mariners to 4-2 victory over the Twins
SEATTLE -- Seattle is back on track, and so is Edgar Martinez.  Martinez, homerless since opening day, connected twice Friday night as the Mariners beat the Minnesota Twins 4-2 and reached .500 for the first time since April 8.  "I'm feeling a lot better at the plate." Martinez said.  "I'm more aggressive and my timing's better."  The Mariners *11-11) are 8-1 since a seven-game losing streak.  They had not been at .500 since they were 3-3.  "We went through a rough spell, but we've bounced back rather nicely." manger Lou Piniella said.  "That's the sign of a good team."  Martinez homered in the second inning, then combined with Glenallen Hill in the seventh to hit consecutive homers off Bob Tewksburys (203).  It was the 13th multi-homer game for Martinez, 8 for 16 against Tewksbury.  "He is a good hitter and he's getting hot," Tewksbury said.  Ken Cloude (3-1) opened the game with nine straight balls, then retired 10 straight batters.  Piniella had the bullpen up three batters in.  "I'd have had somebody up, too," Cloude said. "I wasn't even close to the plate."  In the longest of his 15 career appearances, Cloude allowed one run and five hits in 7-1/3 innings, struck out seven and walked two.  Bobby Ayala allowed an RBI single to Marty Cordova in the ninth but hung on for his fifth save in six chances.  Tewksbury gave up four runs and six hits in seven innings, struck out five and walked none.  "Bobby left a couple up in the strike zone, and they got hit pretty good," Minnesota manager Tom Kelly said.  After Martinez's first homer, Hill doubled and scored on Russ Davis' broken-bat single.  Ortiz pulled the Twins to 2-1 in the fourth with his fourth homer of the season, his second off Cloude.  Tewksbury retired 14 straight before Martinez connected in the seventh.  Hill's homer was his fourth.  Ortiz is the 36th player to homer into the upper deck of the Kingdome's right field.
