Advertised for sale are two iconic classics from the well known author Lewis Carroll. Both books, Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland & Through The Looking Glass are being offered together as a set as I don’t want them to be split up. Both books have been professionally rebound by Chelsea Bindery and each come with their own solander cases. Bindings, Gilt work and solanders are in beautiful condition and would sit proud on any bookshelf as a centre of attention. 

       The first book, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is the 1866 FIRST EDITION, the first published edition comprising the first original issue sheets from the suppressed 1865  Alice book printing in London.The sheets were sold to Appleton Publishing in New York and then printed with the title page dated 1866 with New York showing as the place of publication. This is the first true printing of “ Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, comprising the sheets of the FIRST EDITION still UNBOUND when both the author and illustrator decided in 1865 July to recall the edition which was to be printed  by Macmillan, London. It was decided that the sheets were to be sold to APPLETON, to which the published book bore an American title page and thus the first published book of Alice was released.This is the FIRST PUBLISHED EDITION, the earliest obtainable edition of Alice.   The book is in very good condition with some very light occasional foxing, and light staining to the top corner of a few front pages, no issues of concern. The original cover has been bound in the back. 

         The second book, Through the Looking Glass is the 1872 FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING.

 It is a beautiful copy which has also been professionally rebound by Chelsea Bindery and matches Alice’s Adventures to compliment it as a stunning set. This is the FIRST TRUE EDITION, with “wade” on page 21, and not “wabe” as in later editions. A superb copy which is in very good condition. There is slight light occasional foxing and occasional light blemish but not any issue of concern. 

        Both books are in Very Good condition, and  stunning addition to a collection..!!
