This is a vintage, American edition book by Sheila Kaye-Smith (1887 -- 1956).  She was an English writer, known for her many novels set in the borderlands of Sussex and Kent in the English regional tradition. (from Wikipedia)

This book was published shortly after Kaye-Smith married Theodore Penrose Fry, when he was an Anglican clergyman.

This is a book about life in Sussex. The George was King George 3rd and the Crown was Queen Anne's crown.  They were the names of 2 bars/pubs in Bullockdean.
