A 1922 reprint of the 1909 issuance. Henry Fielding (1707-1754) has been credited with co-founding the first police force in London. His classic "Tom Jones" was first published in 1749, and presented here in volume 2 only of the 2-vol. Everyman's Library set. EL #356, an entry in their Fiction series, edited by Ernest Rhys.

In flatback binding style 1, full carmine cloth-covered boards with elaborate Reginald Knowles-designed imitation gold spine titling & decorations, blindstamped J. M. Dent vignette to front cover, black topstain and fancy Knowles woodcut art at title page, endpapers & frontis. Volume lacks the dust jacket.

The spine titling & decorations have tarnished and turned black, with prior Edinburgh owner's inked signature & info. to front free endpaper & moderate chafing to edges of cloth, else a sound copy. A weakened back hinge has been carefully repaired on this item.

If you are dissatisfied with your purchase because it is not as described, I will refund the price of the item plus shipping costs both ways. If you've changed your mind about an item, or you just want to return it, I will ask that you pay for the shipping and I'll cheerfully refund the price of the book. In either case, items must be returned within 30 days of the date of receipt.

I rate books and dust jackets on a scale from AS NEW to POOR, as follows:
AS NEW - Used when the book or dust jacket is in the same immaculate condition as when it was published, with no defects. 
FINE - Approaches the condition of AS NEW, but lacking the crispness of a new book. These books or dust jackets should have no defects.
NEAR FINE - Approaching FINE but with slight flaws.
VERY GOOD - Describes a book or dust jacket that does show some small signs of wear or slight damage.
GOOD - Describes the average used worn book or jacket that has flaws and/or damages. (An old bookseller said it best, "In rare books, Good ain't good".) 
FAIR - Worn book or jacket that is stained, has loose pages, tears, or otherwise has some sort of significant damage or other issue.
POOR - Describes a book that is worn, damaged, stained or otherwise beat-up, making it useful as a reading copy but possibly not a collector copy. A POOR dust jacket is likely heavily torn, chipped or otherwise damaged.
