This is a vintage antique sample of barbed wire fencing.   This sample features a Jacob & Warren Brinkerhoff patent, dated May 17, 1881.  This wire is called "Brinkerhoff's Open Face or Face Clamp Barb on Twisted Ribbon" by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 920-B)(Variation - book shows flat or un-twisted ribbon but does not show the twisted ribbon).  This wire features a 3/8" wide twisted ribbon wire.  Barbs are two pointed made from lightweight sheet metal.  Barb is cut horizontally on the face side and barbing points cut on each side, and clamped around the line.    Sample is eighteen inches in length and shows some age and use wear. There are four barbs well spaced, and cut is somewhat centered.   There is some bending of barbing points, but no broken, or missing barbing points.
