ーWhati is Batik?ー
Batik is one of the dyeing and weaving crafts of cotton products called sarasa, in which patterns such as plants and animals are hand-painted and dyed in multiple colors using wax resist dyeing.
This traditional textile, which has a unique texture and never fades, has been recognized as a world intangible cultural heritage and is a popular textile known around the world under the name of Batik.
There are four types of batik dyeing methods: hand-painted (Tulis), stamping motifs (Chap), combining Tris and Chap (Combinashi), and printing a batik-like motif with screen printing (Sablon)*. * Sablon is a fabric that has been produced in recent years to enjoy batik at an affordable price.
Cotton is the main material, but high-quality cotton (primishima), silk, and recently rayon and polyester are also used.
