Product Description:

This offering is for a new-old-stock Gipiemme Special seatpost with milled (shallow) sections often referred to as flutes and an oversized saddle clamp. Some of it's more prominent design features and specs include the following...

  • Size: 26.6 mm (post/pillar diameter)

  • Total length: 200 mm (measured from the middle of the saddle clamp to the bottom of the pillar)

  • Usable length (max): 145 mm (measured from the middle of the saddle clamp to the limit line)

  • Off set: 25 mm (horizontal distance from the center of the post/pillar to the center of the saddle clamp bolt)

  • Weight: 255 grams (per our digital postal scale)

  • Other notes: The post/pillar and nearly all the saddle clamp parts are made from an aluminum alloy. The saddle clamp bolt and washer are made from a chromoly steel.

We originally purchased a few samples of these seatposts and although the cosmetic condition was not always as nice as we had hoped (as the original "samples" were not retail boxed), they were well received by customers, so we purchased the remaining stocks from a European wholesaler. We particularly like the traditional styling and the matte black (painted) flutes/accents are a nice contrast to the silver finish that covers most of the pillar. We also like the engraved "Gipiemme" logo on the frontside of the pillar. It's a nice, albeit understated, touch to this classic looking seatpost.

This particular seatpost is also unique from our other Gipiemme Sprint models in that the saddle clamp is oversized and possibly better equipped to cinch down on saddle rails. Regardless of the functional benefits (if any), there is no denying the use of more alloy material in the design and production of this saddle clamp. Then there is the proprietary saddle clamp bolt/nut design. The bolt is nothing special...made from a hardened steel and chrome finished...but the alloy nut is unique in that it "seats" into the top of the saddle clamp for a much cleaner look. The advantages to this design may be strictly cosmetic or I wonder if the better integration of this threaded nut into the saddle clamp might add to the structural integrity of this saddle clamping mechanism. Again, I am just speculating at this point, but it suffices to say the unique appearance of the saddle clamp design caught my attention.

As mentioned in the listing title, this Gipiemme Special seatpost is in it's original cardboard box and it shows well. These retail boxed seatposts are not perfect, as we still see some minor blemishes or marks in the satin silver finish, but the overall condition is nice and generally better than any of the unboxed units we also have available. Please also note the retail boxes are shopworn on many of these seatpost offerings. Listing Update...Please also understand we may have multiple units available, but we have updated the pictures to reflect the next seatpost to sell/ship (so the pictures reflect the next seatpost being offered among the units we have left in stock).

Note to international customers regarding shipping...
We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.

Note to international customers regarding customs...
We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
