This is a vintage antique sample of barbed wire fencing.   This sample features a Jacob Brotherton patent, dated September 03, 1878.  This wire is called "Brotherton's Loose Wrap Two Point Vicious Barbs"  by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 266-B). (Hagemeier does not show the long vicious points.)  This wire features two twisted together round line wires.  Barbs are two pointed made from a single round barbing wire.  Barbin wire is inserted between the line wires, and one point wrapped around one line.  Remainder of barbing wire is wrapped around both lines.  Barbs are wrapped in a loose wrap, and points are very long or vicious.    Wire sample shows minor pitting. There are five barbs.  Barbs are well spaced,  and cut is well centered.   There is some  bending of barbing points, but no broken, or missing barbing points.
