He raised a gull like cry in the air.. "There she blows -- there she blows! A hump like a snowhill ! It is Moby Dick!"

1922 (?) Rare  Edition of Moby Dick; or the White Whale.  Written by Herman Melville and Illustrated by Mead Schaeffer

I am not able to verify the publication date or the 1st Edition that other sources claim this edition to be.

This book has been in  library circulation at some time and has the stamps and marks associated with being in

circulation.  There is a card pocket on the last page of the book.

The boards on the book are covered by a dust jacket that is covered by a clear mylar cover.  It is glued to the boards but when I look under the cover I can see that the cloth on the bottom edge of the front board is worn off.  The back board cloth is worn off at the spine edge.   When shining a flashlight under the cover there appears to be a blind stamp on the front cover.  I can also see the title on the spine edge done in a gold gilt.  There is no gilt on the text block.

The spine is not tight but I do not find any loose pages.  The pages are cut to be rounded.

The dust jacket is covered by a clear cover which is taped and glued to the boards.  The front flap is clipped. I am not able to determine if the cover is faded.  There appears to be a folded edge on the lower front cover.

Illustrations: Complete with the 11 very beautiful full-page color plates by Mead Schaeffer.   Each Illustration is bound into the book as listed. The upper edge of frontpiece illustration has two quarter inch tears at the top of the page. The lower corner of the illustration found on page 319 (Queequeg) is missing a corner of less than one inch. (See close up pictures)
