Antique 19th Century Redware Canning Jar/Croc. Redware clay's high iron content gives it the reddish color during the firing process. Redware is quite brittle and easily damaged. It's hard to find a piece intact. This crock was used a lot. It does have two chips on the bottom and lots of wear on the rim. There is a rough spot inside on the bottom that looks like dirt but I did wash it. Please see pics. The croc is approximately 7" tall, 6" wide at the base, 4 1/2" diameter with a 6 1/2" depth. It has an approximate 8 1/2 cup capacity.
