Very nice Art Deco style chrome double bowl with handle NUT /CANDY dish by CHASE METALWORKS of Ohio. From an extensive estate collection of CHASE Art Deco table and barware, this dish is in excellent condition and has the Chase Centaur logo stamped the bottom of both bowls. Measures 8.75" across and 4" wide. We left this piece in "as found" condition, but we belief it will polish up beautifully. Minor scratches, dings, and marks as expected on a 80+ year old serving piece. Chase only manufactured their Art Deco houseware & barware lines from for 12 years, in the 1930s-40s. Chase Metal Works, founded as a family-owned business in 1876, started as a metal producer and became a major supplier to the U.S. during WWI. After the war, Chase retooled its business and began making high quality, machine-made art deco products for the home and changed its name to Chase Brass & Copper Company. At the onset of WWII, Chase converted back to wartime production. Following the war, Chase chose to cease manufacturing its barware lines. Most Chase chrome plated items will bear the hallmark of a centaur shooting a bow and arrow with Chase under the raised hoofs.
Chase entered the consumer market with a line of chrome Art Deco household items in the 1930s, created by leading designers of the day such as RUSSEL WRIGHT, ROCKWELL KENT and WALTER VonNESSEN. They were usually signed with the distinctive company logo of a centaur drawing a bow. These items are sought after today as collectibles.
Chase discontinued this line in the early '40s, when it turned its attention to wartime production. Chase production of their 'Specialty' items lasted only 12 years, but during that time they issued over 500 items, and 500 more lamps and lighting fixtures.
