PURCHASING AND SELLING CAR, MOTORCYCLE, YACHT,  MACHINERY & TRACTOR BROCHURES + ASSOCIATED PARAPHERNALIA

Item: Scrambles and Moto-Cross by Les Archer. Publication year - 1962.

This is a book about moto-cross, or scrambles as the title alludes. Les Archer was World MX Champion in 1956, and had numerous other domestic titles to his name. He was a schoolboy hero of mine ( albeit I hadn't been born when he won his world championship) as I grew up in the same Farnham and Aldershot area as Les.

Written in the bygone era, Les give advice and instruction on bike choice, machine preparation, riding position and technique. He also reveals a lot about himself. If you're a gentleman of a certain age, or maybe interested or taking part in classic scrambling I'm sure you'll find this an interesting read

This is a collector's item.

Publication year: 1962.

Book size: 190 x 130mm.

Number of pages: 85 pages.

Condition: In good condition. This is a 67 year old book, but don't let that put you off, and let me describe its condition in detail. I shan't over-egg it: this does have signs of use, though not really through anything other than ageing. The dustcover has remained largely in good, untorn condition. There are the typical minor abrasion marks where its doubtless been slid in and out of bookcases over the years, but no rips, and, exceptionally for a red-coloured item, it has not suffered any sun/UV fade, even on the spine.

Underneath, the boards are clean and not faded, with no corner dents or damage. Opening the book, there is a name 'D Edwards' written on the first 'spare/blank' page. If that annoys, the page could be neatly trimmed out - there is nothing on its other side.

The pages have started to yellow with age, and this can be seen in my pictures. Just occasionally there is light evidence of mottling within; those brown'ish blotches you find in older books. Although all the pages are well held within the books binding/spline, there is a 'fracture' in the spine at about page 23. The pages are firmly held, but its where the glue has got brittle over the years and the book has been widely opened causing a slight gape. Again, I'd emphasise the pages are still tightly held, and this shouldn't spoil your reading of it. I point this out to ensure of no disappointments if you purchase it, and obviously it will just need to be handled with the respect due to a book of this age.

There is no damage as such i.e. missing or ripped pages, no sign of turned-over page, oily thumbmarks marks etc.  Overall this is a clean book in very good condition.

Colour or black/white: Black and white throughout. Illustrated with photos of various moto-cross bikes and events from that era.

Please see the pictures, which form part of the product description - typical pages within the book are shown.

Other items: I have a nice collection of motorcycle  >> trials << related books I am currently listing - please see my 'other items' if interested. These are books I've personally bought over the years, having had an interest in trials & off-road motorcycle sport since I was a teenager.

And finally...  brochureblokis a new site. I have however been buying / selling on ebay for 15 to 18 years, and over this period I still maintain a 100% feedback rating. This site and its new title has been instigated in order to showcase motoring brochures and memorabilia, and I do not want this to overlap with my day to day purchases on my other account, so do be assured I will be aiming to establish my 100% credentials on this site as well!
