NEWFOUNDLAND 43 1896 1c DEEP BROWN EDWARD PRINCE OF WALES USED CV$100

One cent, deep brown, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) in Highland dress, from the British American Bank Note Co. (Montreal) re-issue of 1896, engraved, no watermark, perf. 12.0x12.0. Printed on stout, crisp, white wove paper with horizontal mesh, yellowish gum - the earlier issues (Newfoundland 41 and 42) were both produced with almost colorless white gum. Excellent color and appearance, quite well centered. Used with contemporary bar grid hand-stamp obliterator cancel. Few nibbed perfs here and there mentioned for the record.
