Large and Silent « Tourbillon Blue and Chrome » Automaton Moving Gears Wall Clock from the WOODANDROOT workshop.
Our handcrafted wooden wall clock is made of many layers of wood, mdf and acrylic glass, woodstained and painted high quality paint. The front elements of the clock are decorated with detailed and intricate engraving.
Every detail in this model is hand-decorated turning it into an art object on your wall.
While making the design of a new clock we were inspired by a tourbillon, which is an addition to the mechanics of a watch escapement. Developed around 1795 and patented by the French-Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet on June 26, 1801, a tourbillon aims to counter the effects of gravity by mounting the escapement and balance wheel in a rotating cage, to negate the effect of gravity when the timepiece is stuck in a certain position. By continuously rotating the entire balance wheel/escapement assembly at a slow rate (typically about one revolution per minute), the tourbillon averages out positional errors.
The hands motion is complemented by the movement of 4 gears each of which is an AA battery operated. We use silent mechanisms, so they can be used even in the bedroom. The mirror on the background adds some volume to the clock and amplifies the movement effect, transforming the clock into a kinetic installation.
Upon request the clock can be personalized with a text engraving, which will neatly supplement the look of the clock face. Please contact us for this option.
