A popular variety of lettuce, Buttercrunch is a staple in the garden due to its resistance to becoming bitter during hotter days. Buttercrunch has a delicious flavor, tender leaves, and can be harvested continuously over the winter under a cold frame or other forms of protection. Harvest just the outer leaves for continual harvest as the lettuce head grows, or harvest the entire head of lettuce to enjoy immediately in salads. As a cold hardy vegetable, lettuce seeds can be sown right after the last frost date, and again in the fall for harvests throughout the winter. Sow lettuce seeds on the surface of the soil (lightly covering is optional) as lettuce needs light to germinate. If harvesting for baby leaves, you can use tighter spacing.
