The M109A6 Paladin is the main gun of the U.S. Army artillery, and is the ZUI new and improved version of the U.S. M109 self-propelled gun. Compared with the prototype, the barrel was lengthened, the range was increased, and the semi-automatic loading mechanism was adopted to increase the amount of ammunition carried. Equipped with automatic fire control computer and vehicle positioning and orientation device, it can be fired independently. The system response capability, survivability, system reliability and the end effect of ammunition are greatly improved than the prototype, and have the characteristics of a new type of autonomous artillery. 827 m/s ZUI muzzle velocity, 43.5 kg projectile weight, 8 rounds ZUI firing rate, 24,000 meters ZUI range (howitzer), 30,000 meters (rocket extended range ammunition), 28.350 tons combat weight, ZUI large Travel speed: 55 km/h, ZUI travel: 283 km.

For the sake of convenience, we will divide the improved versions of the M109 into two categories: M109A1-A4 for one category and A5-6 for another. The improvements in the former category are minor and partial in nature; the latter category can be considered as a more comprehensive improvement in action, or even a "revolutionary" transformation.

The M109A6 ammunition resupply vehicle was the 125 M992A1, which had the same power engine as the M109A6, improved ammunition storage, and adopted the same ammunition delivery rails and rear doors as the M109A6.

The U.S. M992 series of field artillery ammunition resupply vehicles were designed to provide ammunition resupply for the M109 series howitzers, and could also be tasked with resupplying ammunition for other types of artillery.
