Will it fit my obscure Chinese saw?
Maybe - find out if your saw is K095 Oregon mount running .325 and then yes it will. Use google and forums and gether data yourself please.
Can I ask you if it will fit my obscure saw that I bought 2nd hand on ebay 3 years ago...
You can ask - but we are not going to say 'should be ok'. So if in doubt - do not buy! Or buy and if it doesn't fit keep it all clean and tidy and return to us and we will refund.
Will my saw have enough power to drive this? Piece of string question... but if you must.
I hate this question, because there is no set answer! It is NOT about your chainsaw – it is about YOU. If you have a super experienced and knowledgeable chainsaw user [Test – you don’t know your chain size, the different chains types, the difference between a rim or spur sprocket you are a very long way from being one] then he/she can mount a much longer bar on their saw and use it with success. Same chainsaw but different user who has used a saw for a few years but doesn’t really know all that much and maintenance is poor – they have the same saw BUT if they try and go longer they come unstuck and potentially damage the chainsaw [and blame everyone around them as well as the old phrase ‘saws just ain’t made like they used to be’… you could almost put a song to that….]
Am I getting a good deal?
On our website this kit would usually be £212.40 So I'd say so wouldn't you ;)
This is another potential internet rabbit hole to venture down only to emerge with more questions than you entered with ;)
Stihl 3614-PMX - this chain cuts beautifully out of the box to give a smooth and even board. Developed between Logosol and Stihl this chain is our favourite when it comes to milling timber on an oversize set up.
'Special Picco longitudinal saw chain with narrow cut and high cutting performance, mainly for use in conjunction with longitudinal cutting devices as well as mobile small sawmills such as Logosol. This semi circular toothed chain is characterized by a low vibration level and soft cutting behaviour.'
Oregon 91R - Better suited for smaller milling rigs ie. 25"(61cm) and under. Depth gauges seem to be overly high to take as much of a 'bite' as the Stihl PMX chain.
'Oregon 91R Low Profile Ripping Chains are specially designed for use with portable chainsaw mills and for all applications where cutting with the grain of the timber is required, rather than across it. Standard chassis and cutter parts are used, the cutter grinding angle is the only difference from standard chains.'
Granberg 3/8 lo pro - Granberg adapted ripping chain does work well however sometimes the adpatation to cutters can be fairly crude and it is more of a nuisance to sharpen.
'Adapter scoring and clearing cutters enable a faster cut yet maintain a smooth cut face and smooth milling action'
Pros of lo pro ripping chain:
Cons of lo pro ripping:
So in conclusion - lo pro milling increases milling speed and decreases kerf wastage however there is less margin for errors and as usual for all chainsaw milling your chain sharpening must be spot on.
