Asaki Yumemishi is based on The Tale of Genji, first published in 1008 A.D.
The Tale of Genji, on which Asaki Yumemishi is based, is a long tale that became popular among the aristocracy of the Heian Period in Japan.
Through the hero, Hikaru Genji, the author Murasaki Shikibu realistically depicted the aristocratic society of the time, including love, glory and downfall, the status of women, and power struggles.
This work, which is also valuable as a historical document, can be enjoyed in both English and Japanese.
Note: Asaki Yumemishi and The Tale of Genji continue well beyond the story of this book.
