FINEST QUALITY BEECH BENTWOOD STEAMER TRUNK IN OUTSTANDING CONDITION

This listing is for superb bentwood trunk consisting of the following , A large steamer trunk covered in a quality light green fabric and thick leather cappings at each corner attached with steel and copper rivets. Four sets of beech bentwoods encircle the trunk and are fixed with polished steel cappings and brass pins , The trunk is further strengthend with steel rivets applied in rows at both ends.

The front of the trunk has two large British made secure lever brass locks with  clasps, in the centre is a brass lift over latch adding more security and giving the trunk real quality look , large leather handle straps are positioned at each end of the trunk secured with lovely polished steel cleets and below the handles there are some intresting travel labels . The top of the trunk has the enitials E M M which have been applied for easy identification by a previous owner.

Above the leather handles is a brass trademark plate inscibed FEATHERLITE , see photos .

The back of the trunk has a full length leather  strap hinge secured by 20 steel rivets and a dozen brass pins , further brass pins help strengthen the lid and when opened it reveals a lovely size   and is covered in its original  quality cream coloured fabric nice  clean and fresh and ready for all sorts of storage items . Unlike most trunks this one comes with its original insert tray with fabric strap handles one at each end . A . W. GAMAGE LTD   label is attached to the inside of the lid underneath a  laced glove holder . Gamages were  large retailers with there main dept store in Holden London , they operated from 1897 to 1972 and were holders of a royal warrant .

Some times an exceptional peace of luggage in exceptional condition arrives and this is certainly one of those pieces . This steamer trunk made by FEATHERLITE is one of the finest examples of its type and is becoming much harder to find  , a truly great item and an item that would make a lovely addition to any home .
