This is sublime! It is a woven silk scene that strikes the eye first as a grisaille, a scene entirely in grey tones. But then as one tilts the print or sees it from different angles, one realizes there is a burst of color throughout. I believe it is gold but it almost has a gold pink tone to it. My understanding is that such prints were produced many moons ago by the Neyret brothers in the town of St.- Etienne in France. They had a Jacquard loom but I'm not sure if that is what was used to produce this print. I'm thinking probably so. If you look very closely, you can see the fabric and its details. From a distance, you probably would not even guess that it is silk or material. You would probably think it was just printed. An ingenious art form! As you can plainly see from the back, this is from that period and not a reproduction. The frame measures approximately 8.5 by 11 in. The condition is stellar and this will display beautifully for you. These are quite rare these days. The print is behind glass which is probably what protected it all these years.
