Hiroaki Takahashi (Shotei)

Ukiyoe artist and printmaker active from the Meiji era (1871) to the Showa era (1945). His real name was Matsumoto Katsutaro. His stage names are Takahashi Shotei, Hiroaki, and Kae. A pupil of Matsumoto Kaeko. After working for the Ministry of the Imperial Household and being involved in design, he produced his first woodblock prints with the cooperation of a publisher in 1907. He played a role in the development of new prints and worked on various subjects such as landscapes, beauties, and animals. In particular, his poetic depictions of Edo landscapes were highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad.
