The oil temperature sensor monitors the temperature of the vehicles engine oil. The engine can be in danger of damage if it operates at too high a temperature.
As with the coolant temperature sensor, this sensor allows the vehicle operator to stop the vehicle and switch off the engine if the temperature of the oil gets too high.
This prevents any permanent damage to the vehicles engine.
