Ito Shinsui was a Japanese-style painter, ukiyoe printmaker, and printmaker who was introduced to Kaburaki Kiyokata at the age of 14 and given the name "Shinsui". His painting style, while inheriting the tradition of Ukiyoe beauty painting, was unique in that it portrayed women in a healthy, refreshing, and cheerful manner. In addition to his beauty paintings, he also produced landscape paintings such as "Omi Hakkei (Eight Views of Omi).
