Exquisite Chinese Northern Wei Terracotta Tile with Buddha 386-534 AD

Chinese Northern Wei terracotta tile featuring a masterfully carved representation of Buddha in a serene seated posture, draped in an elegant flowing robe. The right hand gracefully forms the Abhaya Mudra, symbolizing protection and reassurance, while the left hand takes the Karana Mudra, a gesture of banishing demons

The Northern Wei was a Chinese dynasty which ruled Northern China from 386 to 534 AD. The Northern Wei dynasty is particularly noted for unifying Northern China in 439; this was also a period when foreign ideas were introduced, such as Buddhism, which became firmly established.
