You are bidding on a VERY RARE and 100% ORIGINAL WW2 German Luftwaffe  Brandenburgische Motorenwerke GmbH (BRAMO) Engine Badge as ONLY used on the Bramo 323 "Fafnir", Bramo 314A-4 (Siemens-Halske Sh. 14A4), and Bramo 322 (Siemens-Halske Sh. 22) aircraft engines!

This badge was located either directly on the engine casing, or the lower part of the engine cowling of all Bramo aircraft engines. These engines were installed in the Ar196, Ar232, Bv222, Fw200, Do17, Do24, Fw44, Bu133, He46, W34, Hs126, Ju352, and Fa223 (and other helicopters of the time period).

Brandenburgische Motorenwerke GmbH (Bramo for short) was a German company active between 1936 to 1939 for the development and production of aircraft engines in Berlin-Spandau. The company emerged from the Siemens & Halske aircraft engine factory, which began production in Blockwerk I ( Berlin -Siemensstadt) during the First World War. From 1926 this department was spun off into the independent company Siemens-Flugmotorenwerk, Berlin-Spandau and in 1933 it became part of the new Siemens Apparate und Maschinen GmbH (SAM). In 1936, aircraft engine production was separated from SAM as Brandenburgische Motorenwerke GmbH and sold to the German Reich , which had previously demanded an extensive factory expansion, which Carl Friedrich von Siemens rejected.

In the wake of further government demands, Bayerische Motorenwerke (BMW) bought Brandenburgische Motorenwerke GmbH in 1939 and continued to operate the Berlin location as BMW-Flugmotorenwerke Brandenburg GmbH. Today this location is home to the BMW motorcycle factory. In Basdorf north of Berlin, there was a branch plant, BMW's “Werk 9” in Berlin-Spandau, which worked as a supplier for engine production. A terraced housing estate was built there for the employees. On March 22, 1944, the factory in Basdorf was bombed by the Allies.

Made of steel, this is a VERY BEAUTIFUL and RARE item. Most museums that have aircraft equipped with ANY type of Bramo engine either have this badge missing, or installed reproductions. This is 100% ORIGINAL (in-fact, the ONLY original I have ever seen). Approx. 2" in diameter it features a prominent Bramo Logo on the front, with the badge manufacture name on the reverse. Interesting that the maker of the badge is Ludwig Christian Lauer (L. Chr. Lauer Nurnberg- Berlin), which is a prominent medals and awards manufacture for the German Military throughout the war. A one-of-a- kind item, this would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection, display, or restoration project!
