The Problem
De-icers used to all be in aerosol cans but nowadays they are in cheap plastic throwaway bottles. They are easy to open and are poorly labelled. The contents of all these de-icers are toxic to both humans and animals and yet are made to taste sweet and nice to look at,(they are generally blue or yellow coloured liquids).
Once in use, de-icers are often kept in the car where children have access. When they are used to clear the ice from car windows, the slushy toxic remnants end up on driveways, roads and in carparks where it is a danger for pets and wildlife.
When you add up the volume of deicer used over a winter period by motorists it must be a staggering amount of toxic chemicals getting washed away into our groundwater. Industries use de-icer on yet another level again.
The Solution
EcoGrit Concentrate has been designed to be made into a solution very simply. This solution is then a non-toxic, non-corrosive and environmentally friendly deicer that can be sprayed. It is an anti-icer as well as a deicer which means wherever you spray, ice cannot form down to -20C.
Motorists can use it so they would never have to scrape ice off windows again and if you forgot to put it on the night before, you can still use it as a deicer (although it will always be most effective to use it before the onset of ice).
To make a spray:
Take 100 g of granules for each litre of water used. This can simply be stirred together in a jug. Kitchen utensils can be used as this product is completely safe to handle and use. Place into a spray bottle. For larger areas a pump action sprayer is recommended like used for the garden.

Is it safe?
Safety is the number 1 concern for us. It is safe to both handle and store. This product can be kept and used year to year. Just keep the container closed and in a dry environment. The safety data sheet is available on our website. It is non-corrosive, so is safe to use on any surface and in any environment. It contains natural rust inhibitors so any metal that our product comes into contact with is actually protected from the weather. As a solution it can be used as an anti-corrosion liquid. You could even spray a bird table to prevent it from icing up and the birds would be fine to eat off it.
