This is a vintage antique sample of patented barbed wire.  This sample features a Franklin D. Ford patent dated June 9, 1885.   This wire is called "Ford's Twisted Ribbon Wire with Flat Wrap Around Barb", by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 958-B).   This wire features a 7/16" wide ribbon which is twisted.  Barbs are two pointed made of flat stock, wrapped once around the ribbon.  Wire shows light to moderate oxidation.  Sample is 18" in length and has five barbs.  Barbs are well spaced, and cut is well centered.
