You are bidding on a VERY RARE example of a WW2 German Wehrmacht KRIEGSMARINE M38 Gas Mask & Cannister! These masks were issued to all personnel throughout the war.

With the development of poisonous gases used as offensive weapons throughout WW1, appropriate defensive gasmasks had to be developed.  The early M1915 and 1917 gasmasks evolved into the M24, and eventually into the M30 and M38 versions.  All German Army and Airforce personnel were issued a gas mask, carry canister and accessories, and were required to have them ready at all times.

Made of black rubber with yellow anodized fittings, this M38 pattern gas mask is in VERY NICE condition, and all the fabric covered straps and buckles are intact!  The metal alloy eye socket frames and snout retain 90% original late-war TAN paint (originally these were painted blue), and the celluloid eye-socket lenses are present. Though the rubber is a bit stiff, overall it is in EXCELLENT condition with light age and all components intact!  Size is marked as a "3". Straps are complete!

The mask comes complete with a stamped, multi-piece late-war  filter marked, “Fe 42”.  It retains 95% of its original Kriegsmarine Grey paint, with only some slight wear and dents to the bottom.

The canister is EXCELLENT, retaining with 90% of its original Kriegsmarine Grey paint, and is approx. 11” tall with a spring-loaded type hinge closure. Interesting that it is painted OVER TOP of late-war Dunkelgelb! Some wear, corrosion and dents due to the age (also, the lower strap loop is missing). Lid has a square box to carry the replacement lenses.  Comes complete with the original straps!

Would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
