The condition of the cups pales in comparison to the life of the military patriot and NASA Associate Director, to whom they belonged, Colonel Marvin Jones and his wife Anne.

These cups are from the estate of Colonel Jones (inscribed with MARV and ANNE).

Bio follows:

Colonel Marvin L. Jones was born November 18, 1934 in Asheville, NC. He attended the University of Maryland and received his BS degree in Political Science from Troy State University in Alabama. Col. Jones was the Associate Director of NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space Center. He functioned as the key KSC contact and led the effort to integrate commercial, NASA, and Air Force launch capabilities into a viable entity, the Cape Canaveral Spaceport. He retired May 30, 2003. Before joining NASA in April 1985, Colonel Jones served as Commander of the Eastern Space and Missile Center, Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, capping a 28 year career with the U.S. Air Force. Colonel Jones spent one year in Southeast Asia with the 309th Air Commando Squadron at Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Vietnam and flew 738 combat missions. He returned to the States to attend the Army Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, KS. After graduation, he was assigned to Headquarters Command, Washington, D.C. From 1970 to 1975 he served as a Project Air Operations Officer, Office of the Joints Chiefs of Staff and later at Headquarters, U.S. Air Force in the Directorate of Plans as Chief, Special Plans Office. Colonel Jones’ military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with twenty Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, the NASA Exceptional Service Medal, and the NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal. He was a command pilot and navigator with more than 6,000 flying hours and wears the Senior Missileman and Space Badges. Marv was a member of the Order of Daedalions, the Military Order of the World Wars, Missile Space and Range Pioneers, Military Officers Assn. of America, the Brevard County Civilian Military Council, and the Cocoa Beach Rotary Club.
