1950s PUB COUNTER

ADVERTISING SHOWCARD

 Rare original 1950s metal advertising

Point of Sale standing showcard for a

pub’s bar top.

Made for Truman’s Oatmeal Stout and is

a photograph of a woman seated in the

corner of an English pub holding a

glass of :

TRUMAN’S

LONDON BREWED

OATMEAL STOUT

You can also see a corner of another

Truman’s beer advertising showcard

on the fireplace mantle behind her

right shoulder showing how these

advertising cards were used in situ

which is a nice touch I think.

The front is metal and is angled

up at the corners to give a sort of

 2D effect and it feels slightly

padded underneath as well.

The back is cardboard lined with

thick brown paper and has an

 attached foldout foot to display

on a counter top and also a round

cardboard loop so it can be

hung on a wall.

The photo imagery is fantastic and

really life like – lovely skin tones

and blue eyes, the detail of the

woven fabric on her clothing etc –

That allowed subsequent owners

to expand to the point that Truman’s

 became one of the largest brewers

 in the world by the end of the 19th

century and considered one of Britain’s

 best ever if not The Best Brewery.

Sadly they closed in 1989 during ‘dark

 days for the brewing industry’, but

Truman's was reborn with the

 opening of the new brewery,

The Eyrie,

in Hackney Wick in 2013.

CONDITION

In good vintage condition 

showing some signs of

age and use.

 There a about four outward pinhead 

sized dents on the front near the top 

which the camera flash highlights to a degree

 that is NOT the same in real life.

 They are visually barely noticeable

 but you know they are there when you rub

 your finger over them 

Light surface marks to front

overall but generally still

shiny and very attractive.

Some brown spotting on the

front around bottom edge

mainly - see photos.

Slightly convex – would have

been a bit flatter originally I

would think but doesn’t affect

 overall look and stands nicely

upright.

Back is in good order generally.

The folding foot stand is good

and of course still functions

perfectly.
