Beautifully handmade artist/watercolor box by James Neuman at 24 Soho Square, London, dating to about 1810.  Made from solid mahogany with an embossed leather label on the interior of the lid, fine dovetail corners and lovely quality flush hinges. The box is fitted with watercolor bricks, glass water jar with sponge, brushes and a heavy porcelain palette embossed “James Neuman 24 Soho Square”.  There is a removeable brass pin that keeps a lower drawer locked when the box is closed. When the pin is removed the drawer slips open.   It came with a key that is quite rusty and we are unsure if it fits the latch - it doesn't work.

A superb box with wear commensurate with its age.  The photographs represent an important part of this description so please study carefully.
