There is no year in the books but I was able to find online an archived newspaper from 1910 that had an advertisement for the book which is shown in the photos for this listing.

Limited to one thousands sets. This set is number 696. 696 was only stamped on volume 1.

Illustrated by Adolphe Lalauze. The front piece illustration on all four volumes are hand-painted in watercolor with a tissue paper protector.

Side and bottom pages are deckle edges. Top is gold.

Part of volume three and volume four's pages are unopened and need to be opened with a paper knife.

The paper is all watermarked 'Aldus deluxe' with an image of an anchor.

They are in good condition with the exception of volume 3 where the binding is coming lose. Volume one and two both have one page with a small ~1.5" stain where a piece of acidic paper as a bookmark was left for many years. Be sure to look at the photos. Comes from a smoke free home.
