A rare Minton biscuit porcelain model of a poodle leaning forwards on its forelegs on a tasselled cushion, bottom in the air. It holds the remnants of a basket handle in its mouth. Model number 33, c.1831-1840, unmarked.
Provenance: The Dennis G. Rice collection. Illustrated in Dogs In English Porcelain, Rice, colour plate 54. It is noted that some examples of this model are depicted with a bone in the mouth and the author confirms that the "bones" will be a fake amendment to the remnant of the handle of the basket which is the true feature of this model as documented in Godden.
It measures 10.5cm (4 1/8") long by 6cm (2 3/8") wide and 5.7cm (2 1/4") high.
In very good condition; the basket is missing as mentioned bar a section of the handle in its mouth. Some good restoration to the tail and a small chip to one of the tassels.
