The Multi Media Card was developed by Siemens AG and SanDisk, and introduced in 1997.

Multi Media Card normally used as storage media for portable devices, such as digital cameras, cellular phones, digital audio players and PDAs.

While MMCs can be used in a standard SD card slot, the latter cannot be used in a MMC slot.

Introduced in 2005 MMC-Mobile is a smaller version of an MMC-Plus and uses a mechanical adapter to elongate the card. It can be used in any MMC (or SD) slot.
