Hagstrom fait partie de ces marques innovantes dont les guitares présentent des caractéristiques que l'on ne trouve nulle part ailleurs. En terme de lutherie, rien ne semble différent d'une autre guitare à simple pan coupé. En effet, le corps est en tilleul et propose une table en érable flammé, soit une combinaison aussi bien agréable à l’œil qu'à l'oreille. Le manche, collé, est fait d'acajou et reçoit une touche fabriquée à partir d'une essence inhabituelle et spécifique à la marque : le Resinator. Ce bois composite à la couleur sombre se rapproche de l'ébène, tant par son toucher que par son apparence et sa sonorité. La différence avec ce dernier se traduit par une plus grande stabilité et donc une fiabilité accrue. L'autre spécificité de ce manche concerne le truss rod H-Expander. En effet, ce dernier promet une tension optimale sur toute la longueur du manche et est fabriqué dans un alliage qui permet d'obtenir un meilleur sustain ainsi que des attaques rondes.

Cordier en laiton et split micros

Chez Hagstrom, rien n'est laissé au hasard. En plus des quelques innovations citées ci-dessus, nous avons droit à un accastillage et des micros de choix. Les mécaniques à bain d'huile proposent un ratio 18:1 ainsi que des boutons au look particulièrement soigné. Quant au chevalet, il est secondé par un cordier « Sustain Bloc Tailpiece » dont le look massif et le laiton utilisé pour sa fabrication sont conçus pour optimiser la transmission des vibrations et donc le sustain. Côté micros, on retrouve deux humbuckers Custom 62 dont la sonorité chaleureuse est parfaitement cohérente avec le caractère général de l'instrument. Pour plus de polyvalence, un mini-switch se charge du split des bobines afin de transformer ces humbuckers en micros à simple bobinage.

Hagstrom, la légende suédoise

La marque suédoise Hagstrom existe depuis 1925. Bien que la société ait commencé par importer des accordéons et autres instruments traditionnels, elle s'est surtout fait connaître par la production de guitares électriques démarrée en 1958. Plutôt que d'imiter ce que faisait la concurrence, elle a vraiment su se démarquer par ses instruments différents. De grands noms tels que Frank Zappa ou encore Elvis Presley ont rapidement reconnu la qualité de ces guitares atypiques. Lorsque la production cessa en 1982, la cote des guitares Hagstrom ne tarda pas à grimper, de sorte à ce qu'il devienne difficile d'en trouver une à un prix raisonnable. Heureusement, la marque décida de renaître de ses cendres en 2005 et en profita pour rendre ses instruments toujours plus accessibles tout en établissant un cahier des charges strict pour une qualité irréprochable.
