Here's a very rare flatback circa 1900 Victoria (new York - likely Oscar Schmidt) flatback mandolin. Great craftsmanship. Fine inlays. Cosmetically in good condition, presenting as an antique instrument. It has a REALLY old look and feel to it, like 1900 or earlier.

Good inner label -- Victoria -- Best American Make -- - B and J. New York

Needs some structural issues addressed, such as loose braces in top or back, and possible cracks in top and back. The top looks to have had some work done on a crack at one time. I do not know the extent that the top needs more work.,...you should assume that it will, as it is basically in need of restoration, at least where the top and back are concerned. Needs bridge and tailpiece.

The back feels a little spongy due to loose braces. Likely the back will have to be removed in the restoration process. This is very much an antique quality mandolin worth saving and is a good project. There ae some letters lightly carved in the top. The center decoration down the back has some pieces missing. See pics.

Really a fine piece worthy of restoration. The tuners are original and work great!! The joinery and detailing are superb. Great project for an accomplished luthier or an aspiring novice. EZ pick up on mendon rd in east woonsocket RI OR ship for 79.00
