The recordings of the Aka pygmies are amongst the brightest jewels in the Ocora Radio France catalogue. Famed for their extraordinarily intricate vocal polyphonies - in a music which is predominantly vocal - there is however another facet of the music of the Aka pygmies. This album presents the musical instruments of the Aka: one- or two-string bows, ground bow, harp zither and harp, plus small flutes and a lamellaphone 'sanza'. Male and female voices and handclaps accompany the instruments. The field recordings were made in the Central African Republic in the early 1990s. Reissue of Ocora C560139.
