Vintage gilt metal
mesh Foo Dog
or Dog of Foo with
articulated head
and decorated with
enamelling
in Champlevé style or
similar.
His head moves from
side to side
which I have tried to
show in the
photos.
The head and body are
decorated in
Jewel-like coloured enamels of
emerald green,
turquoise blue,
Cobalt blue and white
teeth.
He has a ball under
left front ball
which is held on with
two wires
but it is loose and
really needs
someone with young
eyes and
fingers to re-attach
it properly
(which is no longer
me sadly).
But at least the ball
is still with it.
I have seen a number
of these being
described as antique
and from the
early 20th
century but if this is true
a surprising number
of them have
survived and as they
are very
fragile it seem
unlikely to me.
I would think they
are 2nd half of the
20th century
personally and more like
1970s but I might be
wrong bit I like
to be as accurate as
possible
with my descriptions.
One thing is for sure
he is cute whatever
age he is.
CONDITION
In good vintage condition with a few
signs of age.
He has a ball under
left front ball
which is held on with
two wires
but it is loose and
really needs
someone with young
eyes and
fingers to re-attach
it properly
(which is no longer
me sadly).
But at least the ball
is still with it.
Because of this though,
you have to balance
him to get him to
stand on his own but
it doesn’t take too much
fiddling.
