Vintage Antique Victorian/Edwardian Gibson Girl Style Silk & Lace Bodice – FABULOUS!

Up for auction is a vintage c 1890’s – 1910  black silk and lace bodice.  It is styled with the Gibson Girl look with a very full pigeon front.  It is absolutely gorgeous!

It fastens down the back with hook and eye closures.  It is fully boned.  It has a stand-up lace collar with boning. The base of the bodice is black silk taffeta and is overlayed with black lace and  tons of exquisite embellishments.  It has built in underarm pads that have no staining on them.

It is in excellent condition.  I don’t believe that it was ever worn.  There are a couple of places on the bodice where it looks like it wasn’t quite finished.  You can see some white basting stitched around the neckline which leads me to believe that they were never taken out or there was supposed to be a small piece of trim around the neckline.  There is kind of a strange tuck that has been taken in on the left side of the bodice that has resulted in the bottom edge of the bodice being uneven at that seam.   The only imperfections in the fabric or lace I could find are:

  1.  A very tiny tear in the lace at the neck-line.  Mostly it just needs to be pulled down and stitched to the neckline.
  2. Two small tears in the taffeta at the base of the back closure.  It looks like the tabs were probably just folded over the base on the steel boning during storage which caused the tear.
  3. There is about a 3” section on each side seam where the lace overlay is not stitched together.

This bodice is a decent wearable size.
