Description

This is a reproduction of Marcel Duchamp’s famous cover for the Cahiers d’Art Revue n° 1-2 in 1936, its 11th year. The collage of paper hearts in saturated blue and red was made by the artist especially for the magazine on the request of Gabrielle Buffet.

It takes its name from the title of Gabrielle’s article in the same issue of the Revue, as well as the optical illusion known in French as cœurs volants. The contrasting, saturated colours of blue and red create a vibrational optical reaction, and the hearts appear to move, ‘flying’ towards the viewer. In English, the title translates as Fluttering Hearts, or Flying Hearts.

This silkscreen print on Old Mill paper is produced in close collaboration with l’Association Marcel Duchamp, who verify the ink colours being as close as possible to the originals.
