NEWFOUNDLAND 60a 1890 3c GREY LILAC QUEEN VICTORIA OFFSET ON REVERSE MPH (#74) 

Three cent, grey lilac shade, Queen Victoria issue of 1890, engraved, no watermark, perf 12.0x12.0. Printed by the British American Bank Note Company in Ottawa, on fairly heavy weight, crisp, white wove paper with horizontal mesh, white (almost colorless) gum.  Offset on reverse - only the second stamp of this issue that I have observed with an offset image.  Approximately 60% of original gum disturbed by previous hinging, hinge remnant. Small thin spot at left mentioned for the record. Early Newfoundland stamp featuring a young Queen Victoria - before she decided to permanently be attired, while in the public view, in 'widow's weeds' in memory of her late husband Prince Albert, who passed away in 1861.
