The "Guard" badge was established on May 21, 1942.

Military personnel who served in formations awarded the honorary title “Guards” had the right to wear the badge.

Such formations appeared on September 18, 1941; this status was assigned to them for special military merits.

Soldiers of such units had to wear badges (on the right side of the chest), and military personnel of the RKKF (Navy) - special stripes with an orange moire ribbon with black longitudinal stripes.

After 1943, guards insignia began to be attached to the banners of formations (Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 11, 1943).

Then the image of the sign began to be depicted on military vehicles.

After the Great Patriotic War, the “Guard” badge was awarded only to military personnel of guards units, formations and associations.
