Description: Very Good -.

Chicago: The Reilly & Britton Co., 1910. First Edition, first printing in binding A dark-blue cloth with front cover paper label illustrated in full color on a now-dulled metallic silver background with metallic-green embellishments. Large octavo. 296 pp. 16 full color illustrations embellished with metallic green ink; black and white illustrations throughout. Dark-blue cloth boards stamped in black with rabbit soldier to spine and color paper label to front. Illustrated endpapers, printed in black and orange. No dust jacket.

Boards worn with brief exposure to corners and chipping with loss to spine ends; heavy soiling to edges and spine with spine stamping nearly illegible; general scuffing. Opens easily between gatherings, but overall binding holding soundly. Light spotting to plates; mild smudging to margins; interior else unmarked and legible throughout. Good to Very Good.

The sixth book in the Oz series, and, upon publication, purported to be the final volume, as Baum was looking to direct his creative energies elsewhere. Low sales for The Sea Fairies and Sky Island, however, would lead him back to Oz with the 1913 publication of The Patchwork Girl of Oz.

[Bienvenue & Schmidt pp. 45-50].
