Lord Newborn & The Magic Skulls ist das neue Projekt der begnadeten Musiker und Soundtüftler Money Mark, Shawn Lee und Tommy Guerrero. Im Winter 2008 schloss sich das Trio für ganze zwei Wochen in Money Marks Studio in Los Angeles ein und begann zu musizieren. Auf diese Weise entstand ein einzigartige Funk-beeinflusste Sammlung aus Beats’n’Breaks, vermischt mit einer gehörigen Portion Jazz, Soul, Prog-Rock und Psychedelica. Die drei Musiker sind schon lange keine Unbekannten mehr. Money Mark arbeitet seit vielen Jahren als Keyboarder für die Beastie Boys, er veröffentlichte diverse Solo-Alben (Mo Wax) und schrieb beispielsweise den Soundtrack zur „Beautiful Losers“-Dokumentation. Bones Brigade-Skatelegende Tommy Guerrero veröffentlichte ebenfalls schon mehrere Solo-Alben (u.a. auf Mo Wax) und ist Mitglied der All-Star Skate Band Blktop Project. Der britische Multiinstrumentalist Shawn Lee veröffentlichte zahlreiche Alben, und er arbeitete bereits mit Künstlern wie Coldcut, UNKLE, Thievery Corporation, Bomb The Bass, The Dust Brothers, St. Etienne, Jeff Buckley, Chateau Flight, Natasha Atlas oder den Spice Girls zusammen.
