An early American crock
Salt glazed stoneware vessel with applied handles
Light beige glaze outside, dark brown inside, possibly iron oxide slip
No markings, but appears to be from Lyons NY, which is relatively rare. Usually these come painted by Jacob Fisher or Thompson Harrington
A wonderful compact 1 gallon pot
Circa mid/2nd half of 19th century, New York state
Measurements: Approx. 9" diameter (across), 6.25" deep
Weighs about 5 lbs. 8 oz.
Condition: Very Good overall. There is a visible crack, however the crock stillfeelsquite sturdy. Firing imperfection on the body from impurities in the clay, common for this type of pottery. Please see photos. All original.
These, even with cracks, are selling all over the internet for well over $100.
