A fabulous handmade piece of vintage

Native American jewellery.

 Stamped on the back:-

Ster. c   S C

(in a cloud shaped cartouche)

 which is the moniker for

Silver Cloud Inc. Albuquerque,

New Mexico.

The bale is also stamped

*  STERLING

I think I saw somewhere this company

began in the mid 1970s which makes

sense as Native American jewellery

was HUGE in the 1960s and 70s

thanks in part at least to Super Stars

like Cher and Jim Morrison who

wore this jewellery to great affect

(especially the still gorgeous Cher).

This unique pendant comprises a

handmade detailed setting with the

outer border of joined engraved

rounded shapes which look a bit

like a cloud to me then a thick rope

detail and finally a stunning piece of

 polished golden shimmering shell

 is enclosed in teeth like

claws.

I think this stunning piece of

 shell is some form of polished

mollusc shell.

Native Americans often incorporated

 varying kinds of polished shell in

their designs – Spiny Oyster shell,

Mother of Pearl, Conch etc but

I have not been able to conclusively

identify what this almost golden

shimmering shell is in this pendant.

Nice thing.

(chain not included – it’s Italian anyway

and doesn’t match the pendant –

 just used it for the photos)

CONDITION

In very good vintage condition

with few signs of age and use.

As this is a handmade piece is it

not absolutely perfectly level

when placed down flat but

nothing wrong with it either –

just mentioning for accuracy

of description.

5.4 cm (2 1/8") long inc. bale
