Botanical name: Liquidampar styraciflua Uoriginal country: southeastern USA
This is Satin Walnut board, also called red gum or sweetgum. The sapwood is cream colored and relatively uniform, the heartwood ranges from reddish to dark brown tones that can alternate within a trunk, creating a beautiful marble effect. Sapwood and heartwood, processed together, have an extremely decorative effect. Because this board is cut from the core area of the trunk, drying this type of wood is a little more difficult, as the wood itself works very hard and warping/curving can occur (as stated), which means that some areas have a little less than the stated thickness may differ. In order to better show off the wooden structure of the boards/planks, some of them are only slightly planed and not completely planed - see photos (please take this into account when processing). The board is rough cut, dry, both sides easily pre-planed, some rough spots may still be possible, slanted edges. Possibly very noticeable hairline cracks/faults/insect holes, branches... are marked with color as best as possible! Cross marks, stains and dirt are only superficial and can be sanded off! The dimensions are given with minimum and maximum values!
