STAR WARS THE POWER OF THE FORCE Fan Club Exclusive (Kenner) 1997

The Cantina Band Member is an exclusive action figure that was only available through mail-order in 1997 through Star Wars Insider Magazine, as part of the Star Wars The Power of the Force toy line by Kenner. The figure is based on one of the Bith musicians who performed in the Mos Eisley Cantina in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope and comes with a plastic cloak and five different instruments: a bandfill, a dorenian beshniquel (fizz), a fanfar, a kloo horn, and an omni box. The figure is articulated at the neck, shoulders, hips and elbows to allow it to hold any of the instruments in its hands. 

The character depicted by the figure is Figrin D’an, the leader of the Modal Nodes, a popular band that traveled across the galaxy. Figrin D’an was a talented kloo horn player and a savvy businessman, who often negotiated contracts and deals for his bandmates. However, he also had a gambling problem and a rebellious streak, which often got him into trouble with the law and the underworld. Figrin D’an and his band were hired by Jabba the Hutt to perform at the Boonta Eve Classic podrace, but they escaped after witnessing the death of a fellow musician. They eventually ended up on Tatooine, where they took a gig at the Mos Eisley Cantina, unaware that they were being pursued by a bounty hunter sent by Jabba. There, they played their famous song, “Mad About Me”, while Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi met Han Solo and Chewbacca for the first time. Figrin D’an and his band managed to evade the bounty hunter and leave Tatooine, thanks to the intervention of Han Solo, who owed them a favor. They continued to perform across the galaxy, becoming one of the most renowned bands of their time.

STAR WARS THE POWER OF THE FORCE was a toy line produced by Hasbro from 1995 to 2000, featuring characters, vehicles, and accessories from the original trilogy and the Expanded Universe. It was the first Star Wars action figure collection since the vintage line ended in 1985. The initial figures had a muscular look that was later toned down for more movie accuracy. The packaging design changed over the years, from orange to green to hologram to freeze frame. The toy line was well received by collectors and fans, and introduced many new characters and variations to the Star Wars universe.

Box is unopened with minor wear and is in overall excellent condition. The tape sealing the box has disintegrated and fallen off.
