STAR WARS THE POWER OF THE FORCE Asst. 84185 CommTech Chip (Hasbro) 1999

Always make sure Han shoots first with this set of two Star Wars action figures from one of the most classic and oddly controversial scenes in cinema history. While this scene originally introduced the character of Han Solo as willing to do whatever it took to escape from all sorts of scum and villainy, subsequent re-releases of the film had George Lucas trying to soften the edge of his hero by acting in self defense, bizarrely shifting in place while Greedo somehow missed a point blank shot from less than a meter away. Adding insult to insanity, the current release of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope has Greedo inexplicably declaring "McClunky" before firing. There is no better example of Lucas trying to improve upon his films and making them significantly weaker in the process. Both of these figures were some of the first character re-releases in The Power of the Force line. They are significant resculpts that add a much more improved representation of both with knee joints to allow for them to be posed in a sitting position and recreate the classic confrontation.

Han Solo is a human smuggler and pilot of the Millennium Falcon, who became a hero of the Rebel Alliance and the husband of Princess Leia Organa. The figure was released in 1999 as part of the Power of the Force line and comes with a blaster pistol and a removable vest. The figure has nine points of articulation: swivel neck, shoulders, left elbow, waist, hips, and knees and is based on Han Solo’s appearance in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Han Solo was an orphan who grew up on Corellia and joined the Imperial Navy as a cadet, but defected after refusing to kill a Wookiee named Chewbacca, who became his loyal co-pilot and friend. He then became a smuggler and a gambler, who won the Millennium Falcon from Lando Calrissian in a game of sabacc. He was hired by Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker to transport them to Alderaan, but ended up joining the Rebel Alliance and helping to destroy the Death Star.

Greedo is a Rodian bounty hunter who worked for Jabba the Hutt and was killed by Han Solo in the Mos Eisley cantina. The figure comes with a blaster and a removable vest. The figure has eight points of articulation: swivel neck, shoulders, waist, hips, and knees. The figure is based on Greedo’s appearance in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Greedo was a young Rodian who grew up on Tatooine and had a rivalry with Anakin Skywalker. He later became a bounty hunter and was hired by Jabba the Hutt to capture Han Solo, who owed him a large debt. Greedo tracked Solo to the cantina and confronted him, but was outsmarted and shot by the smuggler. Greedo also appeared in a deleted scene from Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, where he was involved in a kidnapping plot against the daughters of Chairman Papanoida.

This STAR WARS THE POWER OF THE FORCE CommTech line of action figures accessories are based on the original Star Wars trilogy, released by Hasbro from 1999 to 2000. The line features a distinctive starburst design on the packaging, as well as a CommTech chip that allows the figures to speak phrases from the movies when placed on a CommTech reader. The line includes characters from A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, as well as some exclusive figures and vehicles from Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace.
